DIFFA Dining by Design Recap

Last week the annual Architectural Design Home Design Show brought in design enthusiasts from all over the world. One of the highlights of the show, year after year, is Dining by Design, the DIFFA fundraiser that shows the very best of tabletop design from the industry’s top talent.

This year was no exception. We previewed Jonathan Adler’s new fabrics at our table and we wanted to show you some of the other tables we enjoyed, along with a few things we couldn’t help but notice.

Indoor/ outdoor dining was a huge concept last year, and it was well represented this year as well. The garden theme was beautiful at the Architectural Digest and New York University tables, pink flamingoes added a touch of whimsy at Ethan Allen, and the wall of greenery at the New York Times table was lush and fun. Oversize fronds added a jungle element to the sophisticated settings at the Nile Johnson for Philosophy Design Studio & Cheryl Umbles for Perspectives Interiors table.

At other tables, the product was the star. Marimekko showed a wide range of great prints. The New York Design Center used the opportunity to invite some of its favorite guests to dinner, and created individual place settings to perfectly suit each fantasy guest.

Jonathan Adler for Kravet Debuts at DIFFA Dining by Design

The Jonathan Adler for Kravet fabric collection will launch later this year in Kravet showrooms across the country, but fans attending the Architectural Digest Home Design Show this week will get a sneak peek. At Dining by Design, an annual fundraiser for the Design Industry Foundation Fighting AIDS (DIFFA), Jonathan Adler fabrics will be on display at the Kravet table.

The construction of the table and wall surrounds is an ode to pottery, with strategic cut-outs to suggest the curvy forms of a vase, Adler’s signature. Panels, seating and pillows have all been created using the fabric from Adler’s line with Kravet.

The fabric collection reflect Adler’s colorful approach to design: bright bold colors, retro patterns and happy designs. The tables will be on display through the weekend, culminating with the Gala Dinner Monday night.

The bright colorful patterns of the Lilly Pulitzer collection immediately transport us to the sunny shores of Palm Beach. These iconic prints and embroideries have inspired generations of loyal aficionados.

Design Bloggers Conference and News about Blogfest 2012

One of the greatest rewards of my job is hearing how designers are using social media to leverage their skills and experience and gain more recognition, more clients and offer better service to their existing clients. We began to host social media presentations across the country more than two years ago, and it eventually sparked the idea that became Blogfest. The world of social media has changed since 2009, but our core instinct to connect with one another remains intact, and these tools make it easier than ever.

I recently attended the Design Bloggers Conference in Los Angeles. It was a jam-packed two days of great information for the design blogging community, not to mention great parties. I came back, mind reeling, ready for Blogfest 2012, which will be here before we know it!

If you’re attending Blogfest, we have a few exciting announcements:

Travel: If you haven’t made your travel arrangements just yet, keep in mind that there may be a great event Wednesday evening. We can’t reveal the details until everything is confirmed, but wanted to let you know. Also, you’ll get a free ticket to ICFF and the best time to attend will be Monday afternoon before we kick off at 5pm.

Swag: Our sponsorship team has been hard at work securing tons of great swag. I know it’s not time to think about packing, but when you do, make sure you leave room in your suitcase!
