Holiday Decorating with Plaid

 

Our last post was all about decorating with metallics, and using nontraditional colors for your holiday decorating. And while we love to mix it up, there’s just something about a traditional holiday look that will always be in style. San Francisco-based interior designer Scot Meacham Wood recently opened his home to Rue magazine and the photos reflect his signature design style: masculine, layered, luxurious. Holiday Decorating with Metallics

Decorating for the holidays is an exciting and creative process. These days, many people are choosing to break from the traditional styles and colors of the season and are choosing metallics to add glamour to their holiday decorating schemes. Mixing silver and gold, matte and shiny, anything goes when capturing the spirit of friends, family and fun. As an added bonus, metallics often integrate seamlessly with existing décor.

Metallic fabrics are also a great way to add some shimmer to your holiday decorations. Today’s metallic fabrics are not only soft, they are also durable and available in range of colors, from gold and silver to an entire palette of traditional colors with a hint of metallic sheen, like the Kravet fabrics pictured below.

INSPIRED.Showrooms at MOMA

 

Several owners from the Kravet Agent Showroom distribution network were selected to come to New York recently. The group was promised inspiration and got it – several ways. First, with typical Kravet hospitality, Scott Kravet led intimate tours of the design studio and guided the eager guests through every step in the process that brings new product to market. Print, pattern, color, weave, construction and every manifestation of the fine art of fabric is here.

Speaking of fine art, that afternoon we went to the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) to revisit where it all began – modern art and design in America's mid-century. I led a tour through the galleries honoring the 25 breakthrough paintings by the most inspired generation of artists who became icons as New York's abstract expressionists. And slightly tongue-in-cheek, this may be the ultimate weave, Jackson Pollock's One: Number 31, 1950:

In the aftermath of the Thanksgiving feast, the phrase “all the trimmings” conjures up memories of cranberry sauce, gravy, stuffing and all the trappings of the traditional meal. In interior design, the idea of trimmings means something different, but it still evokes the same images of the perfect finishing touch. When you’ve polished off the last of the leftovers, you’ll certainly be looking for a comfortable place to relax. Stuffed? So are these luxurious, cozy settings, complete with pillows, upholstery and more to inspire quiet repose alone or with the ones you love.
