The Southport Congregational Church, host of Rooms with a View.
The annual “Rooms with a View” fundraiser in Southport, CT kicked off last night at the Southport Congregational Church. This year the rooms honor legendary designer Albert Hadley. Twelve designers, each of whom got their start working for Albert Hadley, were selected to design a small room that personified their style while paying tribute to Mr. Hadley.
As we prepared to go in, church bells rang out, settling a reverent calm over the flurry of party planners rushing to prepare for the gala later yesterday evening. We snuck in before the gala to get a sneak peek at the list of designers selected to honor Mr. Hadley through their work. Among those selected to participate: Thom Filicia and David Easton, the former having a licensed collection of fabrics with Kravet and the latter with Lee Jofa.

The vignettes were not named, but knowing the signature styles of each designer made it easy to identify which was which. “That’s SO Thom Filicia,” we said. “That’s SO David Easton.” Each 7x7 room was small, but in the hands of these inspiring designers, each came to life with warmth and color, inviting the viewer into an intimate and thoughtful space.
The main room of the church, which housed eight of the twelve vignettes, was closed for a photo shoot but lucky for us, our two favorite spaces were in a different room. The church will be open through the weekend, so if you’re in the area you should stop by to see all of the unique and beautifully designed spaces for yourself.
