Tuesday’s Trends – Yellow and Grey

Welcome to the very first installment of our new series called “Tuesday's Trends”! Catchy isn't it? We certainly think so. Tuesday's Trends will cover the latest trends that our design teams in their travels have "unearthed" in home decor. The best part is, it will come to you through your inbox every week. Something to look forward to!

For this inaugural post, we would like to pay homage to Jonathan Adler, whose modern aesthetic is a mainstay and quite identifiable in the design industry, as well as Thom Filicia, another one of our favorite designers extraordinaire! The chic color combination of yellow and grey hits the nail on the head. We just can’t get enough! The marriage of these two colors can bring any decor to an entirely different level. It exudes freshness, luxury and modern sensibility.

Whether on a pillow, or a bedspread, or even a wall, yellow and grey in any setting most certainly earns a spot on Tuesday's Trends. Enjoy our "Tuesday’s Trends" today!

Brunschwig & Fils at the New York Botanical Garden 2013 Orchid Dinner

On Wednesday, Feb. 27, Brunschwig & Fils had the honor of participating in the New York Botanical Garden Orchid Dinner, an annual event which precedes the opening of the Orchid Show, which is the largest show of its kind in the country. For this year’s show, 25 top New York designers, including B&F’s own Stephen Elrod, created a dramatic table and centerpiece based on the theme “Exotic Inspirations.”

For the Brunschwig & Fils table, Elrod slipcovered dining chairs in a bold chinoiserie print called Lhasa, which originally appeared as flocked wallpaper in a circa 1720 estate in Northamptonshire. Lhasa shows a Chinese pavilion in a park-like setting surrounded by figures and deer. It was reintroduced as a wallpaper in 2005 and last fall, Le Jardin Chinois collection showed Lhasa for the first time in nearly 300 years as a printed fabric.

For the tablecloth, Elrod chose Clouds, an embroidery also from Le Jardin Chinois. Clouds is a figured stripe reminiscent of the ombred lishui wave band embroidery traditionally placed above the hem of a Qing dragon robe. The centerpiece, a tree blooming with white orchids and red lanterns, hung in dramatic fashion over the table, creating a striking scene.

Brunschwig & Fils is thrilled to support this event year after year. The stunning orchid displays, along with breathtaking views offered by the Mandarin Oriental, overlooking Central Park, makes it one of the most beautiful events on the New York City winter social calendar.

Brunschwig & Fils Introduces Le Jardin Chinois Fabric Collection

Chinoiserie is an enduring and versatile design style, one that celebrates fantasies of Chinese life – ephemeral pagodas, long-tailed birds, men in coolie hats, flower laden vines. These bright, colorful patterns have been staples in the Brunschwig & Fils product line for decades, and many of them have never been out of production.

Our latest collection, Le Jardin Chinois, captures the spirit of the first 17^th-18^th century European designs, often of French origin, which depicted dreamlike imagery of the Orient. Many patterns are adaptations of historic references from our archive, and many are recolored favorites from our line. Several new signature patterns round out the offering which is supported by textures, figured weaves and varied linen qualities. The result is a celebration of color, pattern and whimsy that will always exemplify classic Brunschwig & Fils fabrics.

“The collection represents a popular theme with our customers because it’s a wonderful vehicle for brilliant color and fanciful design,” said David Toback, design director for Brunschwig & Fils. “The treasures of trade that fueled the birth of chinoiserie style hundreds of years ago are still associated with luxury in interior decoration today.”

Brunschwig & Fils on Display at Paul Smith in SoHo

Our friends at the Paul Smith store in New York City's SoHo neighborhood sent us these photos of the window display featuring the classic Bibliotheque wallpaper from Brunschwig & Fils. It provides the perfect backdrop for the brand's chic mens and womens fashion. 

On another note, we want to extend our most heartfelt condolences to all of those who have been, and continue to be affected by Hurricane Sandy. The images of devastation are heartbreaking, and many of our friends, customers and fellow employees are suffering. Our uptown NYC showroom and our Bethpage, NY showroom are both open for business, and we welcome everyone who is able to stop by, charge your cell phone, enjoy a cup of coffee and use our free wifi. We are thankful for all of those working hard to save lives and lend a helping hand. 

Benjamin Moore Color of the Year 2013: Lemon Sorbet

Earlier this week, I received an email from Benjamin Moore touting Lemon Sorbet as the color of 2013. At my desk, surrounded by tear sheets of decidedly “fall” themes: brocade, burgundy, velvet and tweed, I was skeptical.

But then, like buying a car and it’s all you see on the road, I started to spot it. And I’m sold. Like a palate cleanser from Tangerine Tango, this subtle and quiet yellow actually goes with everything. It’s a punchier, happier gray. (Did I mention how great it looks with gray?)

So, allow me to take a break from my fall posting to give you a sneak peek of what’s to come in 2013. And tell me in the comments, what do think of Benjamin Moore’s prediction?
