We are always eager to share how different stages of our process contribute to the overall success of our distribution. This week we traveled to Anderson, SC to one of Kravet’s distribution centers where we got an inside look at the journey of one roll of fabric through our facility and out the door to our customers. We always welcome comments from our readers, so please let us hear from you! We hope you enjoy the article.

A Day in the Life of a Fabric Roll
Every day, thousands of fabrics make their way to our distribution center in
The life of our fabric roll, Andy, truly begins in our receiving department. Once off-loaded into our facility, Andy is inventoried and inspected to meet our very demanding quality standards. After receiving word that he has passed inspection, Andy can now begin his journey through our facility and then on to our customers. Andy moves to inventory to await his next call to action. And it just so happens that one of our very Smart customer service representatives is taking a call as we speak. . .
A customer has requested a memo from this item and already Andy has gotten the call to action! Ahhh. . .The life of a roll is never boring here at Kravet. Next stop for Andy, the memo sample department! The process of cutting, sewing, tagging and distributing memo samples is vital to the success of our operation. Employees in this department work diligently to turn a length of fabric from our roll into finished memo samples. We keep hundreds of thousands of memo samples in stock at all times, and replenishing this inventory on a daily basis for quick distribution to our customers is a significant job that we take very seriously.
Andy truly appears to be proud to have produced “offspring” as smart-looking as these memo samples! Once the samples are ready, they are packed and shipped out free of charge along with a prepaid return service envelope and other goodies from our friends in the marketing department.
The new Kravet Smart line is so popular that as soon as we send out the memo samples, we receive another call from a customer wanting to place an order. Just when Andy had snuggled back into his cozy shelf in the warehouse, it’s time for him to spring into action once again!
Andy accompanies our printed work order to a cutting table to be processed. At this point, Andy will again be put through a strict quality inspection to insure that he meets our standards. Andy is an incredibly smart roll of fabric and has no problem passing this inspection. The requested yardage is cut off for the order, packaged tightly and neatly and sent down the conveyor belt to be handed off to one of our freight carriers for delivery. In another quality-related step, Andy is re-measured at this point to ensure the accuracy of our inventory.
Once again, Andy has fearlessly done his job and selflessly given of himself to meet and exceed the expectations of our customers. Our friendly FedEx driver Rich carefully takes the fabric formerly known as Andy and loads it into his truck for safe delivery to its final destination.
At the end of a busy day, Andy makes his way back to his shelf in the warehouse. He has truly gone above and beyond the call of duty and will continue to do so during his stay here at Kravet. The life of a fabric roll at Kravet is always busy, and when you’re as smart as Andy, the journey is usually quite fulfilling.
